Project 2 – Coding 2.0

So i had the basics of the code workign without sensors, but needed tiagos help to put it all into one…

its basically same as processing which i did last year, but was confusing as all the variables and stepper ints we needed..

with trial and error tiago finally got it working to a degree, which i was glad to…

there are still a few bugs, but tweaking them would take a fair bit…

i need to fix the stepper motors connection to the base as its slipping alot…. !!!!!!!!!!!!

i then went and took my doco video and pictures for our hand in…

i did the 800 words yesterday so im nearly FREEEEEEE

Project 2 – laser cutting

went down to the workshop to do laser cutting of eyes and a nose, i did the eyes on the laser cutter and did the nose free hand.

turned out really well, so im happy with the outcome.

ONTO CODING !!!!!!!!!!!!!

did some quick measurements for my sensor holder for the eyes etc.

time to go do some laser cutting then onto coding.

Project 2 – Sensor Designs

So i didnt want to leave the sensors plain, i wanted to make them look like eyes.

I think ill use perspex to make the white part of the eyes as the sensors already remind me of pupils.

so tomorrow ill hopefully do some laser cutting and glue them with a glue gun.

i did a quick drawing in .AI to see if what i am proposing will look good, i think it will give a cuteness look to the umbrella and big eyes will make it look curious, when the umbrella opens to full the big eye will also resemble SHOCK!

Project 2 – Circuitreeeeeeeeeeee

So the model was basically done, now came the confussing and time consuming part of wiring, i had a test stage wiring complete and working, but tiago suggested to make my circuity tidy and neat.

so after about 2pm, i spent the remander of the day with tiago soldiering new wires and stuff for the new circuits.

by the tiem we were done it was about 5pm, i tested my loop program to see if we soldiered the circuts correctly, and at the start the pulley motor worked but the stepper base motor didnt, tiago found that on of the 5v wires was soldiered to ground port so thats why it wasnt working.

tomorrow i will finish off the coding so it works with the sensors and finish my eyes etc for the sensors.

Project 2 – Back to the workshop

So today i had an idea on what i needed to make in the workshop from my sketches during the public holiday.

i was excited to get the project model finished so i was at uni at 9:30am. i started by ruling up a block of wood and began cutting it to my desired specifications.

there was alot of running aruond as all my stuff was on the 4th floor i kept forgetting things and needing other stuff, so by the time the bracket was cut to proportions it was 12pm, and the workshop closed for 30mins, so during that time i went dow nto jaycar to get some 16socket DPI sockets which tiago recomended to build a tidy circuit.

i got back to uni and finished off my sensor bracket. drilling the holes to the right proportions took a bit of time because they needed to be perfect.

i then had to drill some holes into the umbrella pole to place my ultra sonic sensors to make it look like a tidy model craft.

Project 2 – Wiring v2.0

Had work today so i went in after around 3pm , tiago was sick so i did other things other than coding.

i drew up some skteches on what i wantd the sensor bracket to look like, i started by drawing the outline of a block of wood and then sketching from there, after this i will add detail and cover to wood , with white circles for the eyes and maybe a nose or something which relates.

i also redid the test stage wiring, i pulled all the wires out after i had it all giong and tried re-pluggin them, it didnt work , but with patience i slowly figured out wires plugged into wrong sockets etc.

i also went back down to j-car and brought myself some more parts to make my circuit tidier.

Project 2 – Ardiuno Coding

now my umbrella was mde up to a stage where testing is possible, today was about making sure both motor systems work and using 2 ultra sonic range finders.

Tiago also helped alot by drawing out the H-bridge diagrams and showing where to connect the wires to where, this was confusing at first as muliple slots used the same ping etc, so making all the same inputs the same took a while.

the first thing i had to do which took me an hour was cutting some new wires, as there were about 16 wire slots for each motor and sensor i needed to use, i began tinning them and wot so not.

i started off with 1 ultrasonic range sensor, then moved onto if 2 would work and if they wouldnt interfer with each other, thankfully enough they work great together and hopefully wont be too buggy when it comes to making them work.

i then began with the pulley motor system, it didnt work at first, and this was because a resistor was needed as when the motor came down too much amps where generating from it. after that it worked perfectly and it was a case of coding the timer right on it.

the base motor sensor worked like a charm and both were going constantly well when hooked up correct.

my next stage is hookin my ultra sonic sensors to the head of my umbrella and running wires down the middle of the frame
